Richards Bay co-coach Ronnie Gabriel says his side will keep fighting until the end of the season in pursuit of a top-eight finish, adding that they are peaking at the right time.
The Natal Rich Boyz are currently 10th in the Betway Premiership standings with 31 points from 26 matches—five points behind eighth-placed Golden Arrows and six behind seventh-placed Durban City FC.
The KwaZulu-Natal side’s remaining fixtures are against Polokwane City FC at home on 6 May, Marumo Gallants FC away on 9 May, and Sekhukhune United FC at home on 16 May.
They will conclude the campaign with an away match against Magesi FC on 23 May.
Gabriel believes these are winnable fixtures for Bay as they aim to secure a top-eight spot again, having achieved the feat on the final day of last season for the first time in the club’s history.
“The top-eight finish has been one of our targets since the beginning of the season,” said Gabriel.
“I’m sure the log shows that, mathematically, we can still make the top eight. And who would bet against us given our current form?
“In the last four games, we have picked up eight points, which is a good return in the PSL. Looking at our fixtures, and without undermining our opponents, I feel we have an equal chance of taking points from those matches.
“We will continue to push towards our targets, work hard, and grind until the end of the season.
“I’m sure you remember last season—it took us until the final game to break into the top eight.
“It was a commendable 2–0 away win against SuperSport United FC that saw us move into the top eight. So we have that experience heading into the closing stages of the season.”
