Gabriel Hails ‘Gutsy’ Away Triumph against TS Galaxy

Richards Bay FC co-coach Ronnie Gabriel says his side delivered a “gutsy performance” in a “massive win” against TS Galaxy in their Betway Premiership clash on Sunday.

Sanele Barns scored Bay’s only goal in the first half to secure all three points for the KwaZulu-Natal side at Mbombela Stadium.

The victory lifted Richards Bay to 10th place in the league standings, with 30 points from 25 matches.

“For us, it was about consistency, which we spoke about before the game—coming away from home and getting results,” Gabriel told SuperSport TV after the match. “On Sunday, it required a lot of guts.

“It took determination and courage from the group. We came up against a very enterprising TS Galaxy team. Playing at home, they didn’t want to lose—they committed numbers forward and ended the game with three strikers.

“Early on, I felt we allowed them a few chances, but fortunately we went into the break leading 1–0. In the second half, it was about containing them, choosing the right moments, and creating chances on the counter.

“In the end, we could have scored a second if we had shown a bit more composure in the final third.

“However, this is a massive away result for this young squad. Coming all the way to Mbombela and securing these three points will do a lot for the team’s confidence.”

Richards Bay will next host Mamelodi Sundowns—finalists in the CAF Champions League—at the sold-out Umhlathuze Sports Complex on Sunday.
