Richards Bay co-coach Papi Zothwane believes his side is missing just one thing: goals.
Despite a recent string of unfortunate results, Zothwane insists that the team’s performances remain encouraging.
The Natal Rich Boyz fell to Durban City in the KwaZulu-Natal Derby this past weekend—their second consecutive derby loss following a defeat to AmaZulu, and a prior setback against Orlando Pirates in Soweto.
Although the results have been elusive, Zothwane noted that while the general play is strong, a lack of clinical finishing has become a hurdle.
“Personally, I’m not stressed,” Zothwane said. “I would be stressed if the performance wasn’t there. We are creating chances; we just aren’t converting them. We know the primary focus must be on scoring. I am happy with how we’re playing, but naturally disappointed with the results.”
With the FIFA international break underway, and after a grueling schedule of four matches in March, Zothwane plans to give his squad time to recharge before hosting Stellenbosch at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex on April 7.
“Players are human beings,” Zothwane added.
“They have been playing constantly without rest. We will give them three days off to regroup and spend time with their families so they can come back fresher. We don’t believe in punishing players with extra training just because they lost. We need them to return stronger and ready to prepare again.”
