Betway Premiership outfit Richards Bay have officially confirmed the transfer of highly-rated midfielder Sbangani Zulu to reigning champions Orlando Pirates.
The 22-year-old defensive anchor becomes the latest star to make the high-profile switch from the KwaZulu-Natal coast to Soweto, following in the footsteps of former teammates Yanela Mbuthuma and Nkosikhona Ndaba, who both joined the Buccaneers ahead of the previous campaign.
Zulu, who reliably wore the number 37 jersey for the Natal Rich Boyz, established himself as one of the country’s brightest young defensive midfielders after arriving from Royal AM two seasons ago.
The combative “number six” featured in 23 matches across all competitions this past season, playing a pivotal role in anchoring the midfield.
“Richards Bay Football Club would like to congratulate Sbangani Zulu on his transfer to his new football home, Orlando Pirates,” the club announced in an official statement.
“Sbangani Zulu joined Richards Bay Football Club two seasons ago and became one of our outstanding players as a 20-year-old. We thank him for his immense dedication and contribution to the club. The club wishes him well in his new endeavors.”
Zulu’s arrival at Mayfair forms part of a massive squad overhaul sanctioned by Pirates management on Tuesday morning, which also includes the signings of Mthetheleli Mthiyane, Bohale Ngwato, and Ghampani Lungu, balanced by the high-profile departures of five first-team regulars.
