Richards Bay Fall To Late Kruger United Blow In Mbombela

Betway Premiership | 31 October 2026

Richards Bay’s difficult start to the Betway Premiership season continued as they were beaten 3-1 by Kruger United at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday night. The Natal Rich Boyz fell behind inside three minutes and, despite pulling a goal back before the interval, were undone by a stoppage-time strike that sealed the points for their hosts. It was a fifth successive league defeat and leaves Richards Bay still searching for their first win of the campaign at the foot of the table.

How the night unfolded

Kruger United made the brightest possible start, with Wonderboy Makhubu striking as early as the third minute. Ebrahim Seedat then doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute, leaving Richards Bay with a mountain to climb. Luyanda Khumalo’s goal six minutes before half-time offered genuine hope of a comeback, but Mlungisi Zwane’s late effort in stoppage time restored the two-goal cushion and settled matters in Mbombela.

A season in need of a spark

Five defeats in a row, and still without a victory, Richards Bay find themselves rooted to the bottom of the Premiership. Newly promoted Kruger United, by contrast, climbed to ninth and kept alive their hopes of a top-eight finish in their debut top-flight campaign. For the Rich Boyz, the concern is not effort — Khumalo’s goal showed fight — but the soft starts and late lapses that keep costing them.

What comes next

The schedule offers little respite, and Richards Bay must quickly find the resilience to turn performances into points. Conceding inside three minutes and again in stoppage time points to issues at both ends of a match that need addressing if the slide is to be halted.
